Coral Gables Street Ambassadors

The Coral Gables E-News from the Official City of Coral Gables Website reported that on Monday April 11, 2011 the city began the Coral Gables Ambassadors program.  This is a program where 4 of the city’s meter readers wear special orange shirts that say “Ask me I’m a Coral Gables Ambassador” and apparently you are able to walk up to them and ask them questions about things in and about Coral Gables.  They are also trained in CPR and First Aid which is always great to have around.   They will be wearing the orange shirts and driving their orange cars so if you see them walking around say hi and see how they respond, I am going to try and find one this week and put them to the test!  What test?  I’m not quite sure but it will probably involve me making up some questions that I don’t even know the answer to.  Maybe have they ever heard of

All kidding aside I think it is a great idea for the community, as a matter of fact they should train everyone in CPR and First Aid, especially the entire staff at Houston’s, since that is where I spend most of my time and will almost certainly need their services!

I will let you know if I am able to encounter one of the four Coral Gables Street Ambassadors so check back soon!

  1. I have seen these Ambassador cars commit major traffic violations more then 5 separate times over the last 10 days. Rolling through stop signs, stopping at a stop sign well past the solid white line into the crosswalk, stopping at a stoplight past the solid white line well into the crosswalk (I had to walk around him into the road and traffic – he was completely inside the crosswalk!!). This is very disappointing!

    • Oh no! Apparently they are acting like real ambassadors who never pay attention to traffic laws! That’s a shame, I was hoping for something better but have to admit I had my doubts. I have seen them only twice but have not noticed anything like that as both time the cars were parked. If I do see that I would definitely report it because that means the program is going to do more harm than good!
